Subaru today released the first details and photos of the fourth generation Forester SUV, which will make its world premiere on November 13 in Japan and its North America debut at the LA Auto Show.
As with previous generations, the all-new Forester features Subaru’s original Symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system, which promises „higher level of vehicle driving, handling and stopping capabilities, enhanced safety and environmental performance and excellent drivability in all road conditions.” The new Forester is slightly larger than its predecessor, at 4,595mm (+35mm) of length, 1,795mm (+15mm) of height and 1,695mm (+20mm) of width.
The fourth-generation Forester also has a longer wheelbase at 2,640mm (+25mm). North American buyers of the new Forester will have to choose between a new 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged BOXER engine producing 250 horsepower or the standard naturally aspirated 2.5-liter BOXER engine (170 hp) debuted in the outgoing Forester model. Subaru promises better fuel economy on both units, thanks to new six-speed manual transmission and available Lineartronic continuously variable transmissions(CVT). Of course, Europe will get also a diesel, most likely the same 2.0-liter boxer unit that develops 150 horsepower on the current Forester.
In Japan, the new Forester will be offered with a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with 148 hp and a 2.0-liter turbo unit with 280 hp. Following the premiere in Japan on November 13, the all-new Forester will be introduced in other major markets world-wide.
