The Japanese automaker has announced pricing details for its 2016 Baleno hatchback which reaches dealerships next month, with an entry price of £12,999 in the United Kingdom.
The Baleno is coming in to fill the slot above the subcompact Swift and has been equipped as standard features with ID headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, and an infotainment system with a seven-inch display, as well as cruise control, rear privacy glass, and GPS navigation. Going for the upper specked Baleno SZ5, the future owners will also have amenities such as an automatic climate control system, power rear windows, and LED taillights. Other highlights include an adaptive cruise control system and a 4.2-inch color display in the instrument cluster.
Power comes courtesy of two engine options. The entry level power plant will be the turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder coming with 111 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. This engine can be linked to a five-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed automatic gearbox. The latter option grants a 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of exactly eleven seconds. The Baleno SZ5 can also be had with a 1.2-liter four-cylinder SHVS engine, which costs £13,499 and comes with a mild hybrid system that uses an integrated starter generator and a compact lithium-ion battery. This version is rated at 70.6 miles per gallon on the EC combined cycle and has corresponding CO2 emissions of 94 grams per kilometer.
