The current generation Suzuki Swift has been around since late last year in December, and then went to dealerships across the globe in its own rightful time – though fans were left out of the sporty version.
Now the Swift Sport is officially coming alive – set for the official apparition in front of the worldwide audience at the Frankfurt Motor Show, reads an official announcement from the Japanese brand. There aren’t too many details about the model – since we’re still almost two months away from the actual introduction, but the marque does say the new Swift Sport has “undergone a complete redesign and delivers an all-new level of excitement for sport minded drivers across the world.” While there’s no more official information to discuss, one can always turn to the rumor mill for insightful rumors.
According to British media, the model is finally set to receive turbo power, packing the 1.4-liter Boosterjet turbocharged gasoline engine already found under the hood of the Vitara S crossover. It will come in downsized form as a replacement for the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated motor. The power levels will be the same, though at 140 hp (103 kW) and 162 lb-ft (220 Nm) for the new engine as opposed to 136 hp (101 kW) inside the predecessor. The report also states the new generation is also lighter, as in featherweight because it will go below the 2,205 pounds (1,000 kilograms) threshold.
