Tata Motors, the Indian automaker launches Tata Divo Luxury Coach and Tata Starbus Ultra – two luxurious long distance inter-city travel buses.
The first one, Tata Divo is meant for inter-city passenger transportation and tourist operations. The vehicle offers customised interior features such as different seating layouts in semi-sleeper and seater configurations, wide seats with upto 135 degree recline with head flaps and armrests, generous saloon space with high roof, hat-racks with personalised controls for AC and reading lights, large luggage space, making it the ultimate luxurious coach.
Power comes from a Cummins ISBe 6.7 liter turbo charged, intercooled diesel engine that puts out a peak power of 285 Bhp at 2,500 rpm and a peak torque of 970 Nm at 1,600 rpm. It has a top speed of 114 Km/h, matching the likes of the Mercedes Benz and Volvo intercity coaches.
Along with Tata Divo, the company on Wednesday launched new variants in the Tata Starbus Ultra range. Meant primarily for intra-city transport, the luxury variant can also be used for inter-city travel.
The market size for inter-city luxury buses with factory-built body stands at about 250 units annually and the company is targeting to sell around 150 units in India.
According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association,the industry sold 43,000 buses this year.
