Tata Motors’ total sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in May 2012 were 64,347 vehicles – up 4 percent compared to May 2011.
Domestic sales of commercial vehicles in May 2012 rose 7 per cent to 39,625 units, compared to 37,170 units in May last fiscal. While light commercial vehicle sales grew 26 percent, medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales fell by a fifth over the same period last year.
The Indian automaker said it sold 8,507 Nano little vehicles – up 31 percent compared to 6,515 vehicles, sold in May, last year.
The Indigo range recorded sales of 3,397 vehicles, lower by 20 percent, over 4,268 vehicles, sold in May, last year. The Sumo / Safari / Aria / Venture range are flat at 3,132 vehicles, in this month.
The Indian giant is having problems after Jaguar Land Rover unit gave investors a sobering reality check. The company lost more than $1.5 billion after shares fell 11.9 percent on Wednesday.
The automaker said on Tuesday profitability at the luxury unit had fallen from the previous quarter, raising concerns that the company’s key earnings driver was losing speed during a worrisome period for the global economy.
