Tata Motors Plans to Invest 1 Billion Euro to Build Romanian Plant

Dailybusiness.ro published a report according to which, Tata Motors plans a full fledged production plant in Romania.

Tata Motors, the largest automaker in India, plans to make an investment in the Tetorom 3 industrial park, located in Cluj City, Romania. According to the name, Tetorom 3 is the third phase of the industrial park, which is being promoted by Cluj County Council (CCC). The park spreads on 154 hectares (~16 million square feet) and is located in the village of Jucu, near Cluj.

The report says that currently Tata Motors is negotiating with CCC a 1 billion euro investment, but o official announcement will be made regarding this issue due to the automaker’s request for discretion in the process. It is rumored that the plant to be built here will be a full fledged production facility, able to manufacture commercial vehicles, passenger cars and even buses. The components could be purchased from the local vendors, with tax benefits.

Although the negotiations between the two parties are still in the early stages, a new plant in Romania would prove a strategic move for Tata’s European operations, and the perfect facility to manufacture the next generation Nano, which will comply with the European safety and quality norms. The utility vehicle lineup will include the Manza, Safari and Telcoline, while the commercial vehicle lineup will have the Prima trucks, which are developed in partnership with Daewoo.
