Apparently the long wait is coming to an end with the reveal of the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 being closer than ever – or this is what we understood from this short teaser trailer.
We’re still taking this with a grain of salt – as should you – even though Chevrolet is actually spilling the beans by letting us hear the supercharger and we also noticed an automatic transmission is in charge so we’re not pointed in the direction of the Z/28. For starters, every rumor around the mill is tipping a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine that is being packed in the Chevy Corvette Z06 and the Cadillac CTS-V to be on the menu. And since the previous generation had a LSA engine with 580 horsepower under the hood, we’re expecting a little more than that now – maybe even the full 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque like in the C7 ‘Vette Z06.
Even if the full power of the engine is not unleashed, the Camaro will be turned into one mean machine – the new stiff and lightweight Alpha platform will take care of that. The SS model goes on the street with “just” 455 horsepower and sill puts a supercar-territory zero to 60 mph time of four seconds. And we should all remember even the old ZL1 was a great racer in its time, after rounding up the Nurburgring’s Green Hell in 7:41:27. The engine is expected to be linked to an 8-speed 8L90 automatic gearbox as an option and to a standard six-speed manual, the suspension should feature the Magnetic Ride Control and we’re also assuming a complete aero body kit is also on the menu.
