Tesla kicks off the over-the-air update to Version 8.0 with Autopilot upgrades image

The Tesla version 8.0 upgrade is seeding now through an over-the-air upgrade and its main features include a raft of Autopilot features as well as an always-on temperature control system.

According to billionaire entrepreneur and company CEO and co-founder, Elon Musk, the “release will be gradual to make sure there aren’t small regressions.” This means the entire world will not be packing the update right away as there are different configurations for different environments. “This is a major overhaul on almost every level compared to V7,” Musk also twitted. Among his favorite new features high up the ranks sits the new always-on temperature control that will potentially save kids and pets from overheating. It will automatically turn on the air conditioning if the interior reaches 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40 degrees Celsius) and if there’s more than 20 percent battery life.

Most importantly, v 8.0 also has a raft of updates for the Autopilot semi-autonomous system, including the freeway interchanges handling ability. The system also uses the radar more than before, for example sending the signal underneath the car in front to “view” further ahead. It also has new learning skills and more visible warnings. We’re also expecting to see more information on the software’s functions coming out soon – and maybe even the usual Easter eggs Tesla has been traditionally bundling its software packages with.
