Remember that a few days ago we brought you the news that a courageous fan team plans to cross the continental US using the Tesla Model S and only its recently completed Supercharger network? Well, they pulled that off in record time.
Thunder and Lightning – as were the two Model S nicknamed – pulled the feat off in a Guiness World Record manner, thanks to their team of 15 members – who drove the cars in just 76.5 hours from Los Angeles to New York.
The y were originally inspired by the first team to accomplish the task, made of John Glenney, 62, and his 26-year-old daughter, Jill, who drove from New York to Los Angeles in five days.
The Cross Country Rally team originally set the goal of just three days to accomplish the 3,464.5-mile trek using only Tesla’s Supercharger network – which is faster than regular charging, with 50% charge up in 20 minutes.
The team not only completed the feat in a record 76.5 hours, but also recorded on their Los Angeles to New York City trip the lowest charge time – 1,197.8 kWh; and they have now submitted their expedition to the Guinness World Records in London.
