Tesla Model S is Automobile Magazine’s “Automobile of the Year” image

The all-new Tesla Model S has been recently named the Automobile of the Year by Automobile Magazine.

After beating some very prestigious vehicles for this year’s Automobile of the Year award, like the BMW M5, the Cadillac ATS, the Porsche 911 or the Subaru BRZ, the Tesla Model S, which is the world’s first luxury electric sedan, will definitely attract some more customers into the brand.

“Winning AUTOMOBILE Magazine’s ‘Automobile of the Year’ award is an important milestone for Tesla because it underscores our goal to build a great car, not just a great electric car. Winning this award is great recognition of what we’ve accomplished as a company, and we’re thrilled to receive this endorsement from one of the industry’s most respected authorities”, said the Tesla Motors co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk.

As a quick reminder, the Tesla Model S has a starting price of 49,900 USD and the entire production for 2012 has been sold out since earlier this year. Tesla says that an upgrade package, which has been named the Model S Performance, is adding features like the Nappa leather with Alcantara accents in the cabin, carbon fiber accents for the exterior, a high-performance drive inverter, active air suspension with sport-tuned traction control and upgraded wheels and tires. The 60kWh model costs 59,900 USD but for the 85kWh version, 10,000 USD extra will be added. Standard equipment includes a 17-inch touchscreen infotainment and 19-inch alloy wheels.
