The brand new Tesla Model X has been officially unveiled during a special event which took place in the Freemont facility, in California.
Tesla Motors has finally put an end to rumors on the upcoming Model X by officially pulling the wraps off its body. The model in question is the first fully electric production SUV the world has ever seen and it is bringing a familiar design with the sloping roofline and the LED lighting units. The vehicle has the active rear spoiler and a sleek profile as well.
The drag coefficient is said to stand at 0.24. Other things which are worth mentioning include the Falcon Wings doors, which are said to allow an easy access for the second and third row of seats occupants, along with the windshield, which is also said to be the largest one in production currently, providing the driver and all passengers with a panoramic visibility.
The battery pack has been mounted in the floor and this is helping lowering the center of gravity and also strengthening its body structure in side impacts and the front trunk is acting as an impact absorbing zone. Inside it we can find the 7- or 6-seat layouts, with the two seats configurations, 2+3+2 and 2+2+2, while the third row of seats can be folded flat when it is not being used. The giant portrait format screen, similar to the one on the Model S, can be found on the dashboard as well.
Other goodies available for the brand new Tesla Model X also include the active safety system which is working together with a camera, a radar and a sonar systems, automatically applying the brakes in an emergency even at highway speeds, the air suspension system, the pollution free climate control system and several other goodies which should make the world’s first ever fully electric SUV a popular choice.
The car manufacturer will be offering a total of two versions of the brand new SUV at this time and both of them will be equipped with all-wheel drive. The 90D version will be coming with two 259 HP (190 kW) motors for each axle which will be allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.8 seconds and it will get a total range of 257 miles (414 km).
The P90D range-topping model will be offered with a 259 HP (190 kW) motor and a 503 HP (370 kW) motors, which will be providing it with a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint made in 3.8 seconds. The Ludicrous Speed upgrade will lower the sprint time to just 3.2 seconds. The model is currently available for order but the first deliveries will begin in the second half of 2016, as the carmaker is stating. More details on it are limited at this time and will be announced later on.
