Tesla decided the new battery pack option should only be available in a flagship configuration with the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout and Ludicrous mode. Aside from the blazing fast acceleration times, the Environmental Protection Agency’s test rates the P100D at 315 miles (507 kilometers) or 381 miles (613 kilometers) under the different New European Driving Cycle evaluation. There are no outside modifications other than new badges and inside the P90, P90D, and P100D trims now also boast the Premium Seats from the Model X.
By the way, the SUV also gets the P100D option, which allows it to sprint to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds – with a range of 289 miles (465 km) in the EPA test or 337 miles (542 km) according to NEDC. Prices kick off at $134,500 for the Model S P100D and $135,500 for the Model X, with order books already open and first deliveries slated for September.
