The Tesla Model S and Model X – in their flagship P100D derivations – already have supercar abilities, which is amazing considering that they’re electric, have great range and can also carry a whole family.
Elon Musk has decided to shed some light on the Tesla Model S and X P100D Easter Egg – which is said to come in December as a software update and carry astounding credentials. The electric sedan will reach 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) is an absolutely amazing (when using Ludicrous mode) 2.4 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds. The tweak should also allow the equivalent Model X sprint to 60 in 2.8 seconds – which is amazing for a sport utility vehicle. Musk took to his usual media outlet – Twitter – for the announcements and also clarified that it’s an Easter Egg for all P100D owners to enjoy – past and future – because it’s only a software optimization.
According to reports on the subject Musk is most likely referring to the upcoming Tesla 8.1 software update. Which also has other niceties – such as the ability to set maximum and minimum values for the always-on temperature control that keeps the cabin within a specific range, even when the vehicle is off. Now we just have to wait for the update to hit and see who’s the first to discover the Easter Egg that delivers the hypercar-like abilities.
