Volkswagen’s premium carmaker Audi is preparing to unveil its new A8 luxury sedan, next week on August 21 – but until then we have some fresh images showing the new matrix LED headlights.
According to the official statement, each of the enhanced headlights contains18 light-emitting diodes arranged in a strip that is subdivided into seven blocks. Each tail light contains 24 LEDs in eight segments, which are used to dynamically indicate the turning direction.
The same LEDs act as cornering light too, i.e., before you take a turn, these lights turn a wee bit by taking data from your vehicle’s navigation system, thus illuminating the approaching corner.
Also, as soon as an moving objects towards the car is sensed by the car camera, one or more LEDs pointing towards that object will be dimmed or turned off.
This means the driver can use high beam illumination without the danger of blinding drivers coming from the opposite direction.
Set to take on the all-new 2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class and the not-so-new BMW 7-Series, the A8 facelift will hit the showrooms by the end of 2013.
