The Russians from AvtoVAZ have officially introduced the production version of Lada Xray model.
After the recent revealing of Vesta sedan, the AvtoVAZ automaker – better known to the world under the trade name Lada -, has officially unveiled its second car this year, as the final production version of Xray. Thereby, the Russian brand is targeting the affordable segment of the auto-market in which Renault is well established through its Dacia brand. If Vesta is meant to compete with cars like Dacia Logan, the newly Xray is focusing on the 5 door compact segment and on a younger clientele. The first glimpse of this hatchback was shown two years ago, when it emerged in a concept form.
With mass production due to start in mid-December and sales in February 2016, the new car is developed on the B0 platform of Renault-Nissan alliance and has more than 500 original parts. The engine range for Xray will be made up by three petrol units, two versions of a 1.6 litre engine and one 1.8 litre one. The entry level 1.6 litre has 106 PS, with 114 PS for the slightly powerful unit, while the 1.8 litre is developing 123 PS. The smaller unit may by mated with a manual gearbox, while for the top-range one an automatic transmission is also available. No diesel was announced at this moment. Inside, among its equipment features, Xray has USB and AUX ports on the CD player, air conditioning, door mounted front electric window controls, electric side mirrors, a multi-function steering wheel with a 3-spoke design and a black upholstery with grey accents for the seats.
