Volkswagen has officially announced the blink and you’ll miss it facelift for the entire Golf range back late last year, but the models are still en route towards reaching all markets.
For example, it’s only now that its flagship GTI version is reaching dealership in Great Britain, and for that matter we’re more interested in the fact that UK customers can also park in their driveway the top of the range Performance variant. As for the rest of the GTI models, they share a raft of unnoticeable design upgrades, as well as updated technology inside and out, the same as with the rest of the family. Now back to the Performance, this one comes with extra oomph as engineers tweaked the 2.0-liter TSI engine to 242 hp (180 kilowatts) and 370 Nm (273 pound-feet), which is a gain of 15 hp and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) compared to its predecessor.
There’s a choice of standard six-speed manual or the optional new seven-speed DSG automatic, but regardless the Golf GTI Performance is hitting the 62 mph (100 kph) mark in a brisk 6.2 seconds – with maximum speed standing at 155 mph (250 kph) or 154 mph (248 kph) in case you like the comfort of the dual-clutch setup. The top Golf GTI however is the limited edition Clubsport S, but that one is based on the pre-facelift model. The Golf GTI Performance prices start at £29,280 as they become available in England.
