Mercedes-Benz has officially pulled the wraps off the newest member of the S-Class, the S-Class Cabrio.
Following a leak, a lot of spy shots and videos and several renderings, the brand new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is finally here as it has been officially unveiled. The model in question is coming with a retractable three-layer acoustic soft top, available in four shades, dark red, dark blue, beige and black, and this can be opened and closed in approximately 20 seconds, at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph).
The interior design of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is following the footsteps of the coupe but it is gaining the new THERMOTRONIC intelligent climate control system. This is promising to keep the occupants of the car comfortable regardless of the weather and with the roof opened or closed. It has 12 sensors and 18 actuators to provide the ideal climate in all conditions.
The THERMOTRONIC’s sensors can also detect the level of solar radiation and it is bringing two climate zones and three climate styles, diffuse, medium or focused. The drop-top flagship model from Mercedes-Benz is also coming with a lot of upholstery choices, which includes the leather, the designo Exclusive Nappa leather or the Nappa leather.
The options available on the vehicle include the Warmth Comfort package. This is bringing the heated seats, the heated multifunction steering wheel and heated armrests. You can also get the AIR-BALANCE package, the optional AIRCAP automatic wind protection system or the already familiar AIRSCARF neck heating system.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabrio stands at 5,027 mm long, 1,899 mm wide and 1,417 mm tall. This is bringing the usual AIRMATIC system along with the rest of the safety systems present on its solid roof brother, the S-Class Coupe. It has been called a “dream car” by the 3-pointed star and it will have its public debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in less than two weeks.
Before wrapping it up, we have to mention the engine lineup, which is bringing the entry-level S500 Cabrio, with its 4.7 liter twin turbo V8 engine, rated at 455 HP (335 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. There is also the S63 AMG or S63 AMG 4MATIC Cabrio available, with the 5.5 liter twin turbo V8, producing 585 HP (430 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) this needs 3.9 seconds. Top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
The brand new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabrio will be making its public debut, as we said above, at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, later on this month. The model will be offered for sale in Germany this December and the first deliveries will begin in spring, 2016. You can check it out in the photo gallery posted below.
