Former F1 driver Timo Glock will race for BMW’s new MTEK team in the DTM this season.
The German, who joined BMW’s touring car line-up within a week of losing his F1 seat with Marussia, will partner another DTM rookie, Marco Wittmann, at the MTEK squad. Wittmann has been promoted from test-driver to race driver this year.
Based in Munich, the team owned by Ernest Knoors ran Glock in his first DTM test at Valencia in January. “With BMW Team MTEK, we will have even more strength in numbers in the future, which can only be advantageous in such a close series as the DTM. There are obviously some operational challenges when it comes to integrating a new team into an existing structure. However, we are confident we have done just that,” BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt was quoted as saying by Autosport.
He added that BMW will put no pressure at the beginning of the season on the two rookie drivers. “Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann are also new to the DTM. Together with BMW Team MTEK, we will give them the time they need to gradually find their feet in this series,” Marquardt added.
Schnitzer Motorsport, winner of last year’s teams’ title, will once again run Bruno Spengler (driver’s champion) and Dirk Werner.
