While it may not be apparent, the teaser picture showcases two “different” models – prepared out of the Toyota Vitz and Aqua by Gazoo Racing in time for next month’s popular aftermarket event.
In case you don’t speak JDM (sorry Japanese auto market) slang, the Vitza and Aqua stand for the Yaris and Prius c respectively, as sold at home. Of course, since we’re dealing with two models from the ear when Toyotas were boring, the two hatchbacks needed a splash of something – so they’re on their way into January’s Tokyo Auto Salon to show off sporty body kits envisioned by Gazoo Racing. Toyota is of course playing the mysterious part and hasn’t detailed much the teaser, but as far as we can see there’s a huge lower grille with “GR” letters and beefy air intakes.
We also made out a front spoiler lip and a dark tint for the headlights – and there’s also a modified suspension with lowered ride height, alongside massive double-spoke alloy wheels with body color coordinated brake calipers. The three-door Vitz/Yaris also seems to indulge its fans with a roof-mounted rear spoiler – but unfortunately we have no idea if the changes are just for show or there’s more tuning under the metal for some extra go, as well.
