TomTom, the Dutch manufacturer of automotive navigation systems on Tuesday announced the introduction of TomTom Connect: a semi–integrated navigation solution tailored specifically to Opel and Vauxhall vehicles.
TomTom Connect will offer standard navigation functionality, LIVE Services, including TomTom HD Traffic ,dynamic routing, live weather updates and local search.
The company said the system software and content can be updated through the online portal MyTomTom.
TomTom Connect will be available on the following Opel and Vauxhall models: Astra J, Corsa D, Meriva B, Combo D, and Insignia via Opel and Vauxhall dealers as of December in Europe.
“Opel and TomTom have been working closely together to offer Opel and Vauxhall drivers the full advantages of real time navigation services,” says Giles Shrimpton, Managing Director TomTom Automotive.
“This is an important step in our relationship and I look forward to developing the opportunities this brings for both companies.”
The announcement comes shortly after the Dutch company said it may to cut some jobs in a major restructuring programme as it reported third-quarter revenues falling 10 percent to EUR 336 million due to a continued fall in demand.
In addition, last month TomTom failed to finish a deal with BBC’s TopGear. Apparently, the contract between the famous TV presenter and BBC doesn’t allow Clarkson to lend his image for any product related to the car industry.
