If you are a Top Gear fanatic, then this your chance to grab a souvenir from the last series of the show, as the famous “reasonably priced car” is now up for sale.
Top Gear’s fans have now the opportunity to take home something to remind them of the good old days of the show. It is not what you will call a souvenir, as is not small nor cheap, but it is a piece of the show’s history that you can enjoy every day. The reasonably priced Vauxhall Astra of the last three series, drove to the limit by celebrities invited on the show, it is now being auctioned for charity on ebay. But you have to hurry if you want it, as the bid is ending in about 4 days. The price is steadily climbing every day, being just over 16,000 pounds at this moment.
The five-door Astra hatchback is a Tech Line model with a 115 bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine in Power Red. For all the “stars” to feel safe behind the wheel, the car has undergone some changes, featuring Front Corbeau Sprint Racing seats with 5-point safety belt harness and full roll-cage, as inner door panels have been altered to accommodate this enhancement, plus other modifications to fit the cage and seats. The ebay page also cautions that the air bags have been disabled to make room for the roll cage. The car has been used on a track for 2,908 miles and it is in good condition with some minor “marks from use,” but their provenience can only contribute to its charm.
The “Star in a Reasonably Price Car” segment was introduced on Top Gear in 2002 and started with Suzuki Liana as the track car, followed by Chevrolet Lacetti, Kia Cee’d, and Vauxhall Astra. So, if you decide the latter is worth the money, you will be able to boast that your car was also driven by Steven Tyler, James Blunt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Smith, Hugh Jackman or Brian Johnson.
