Toyota plans to begin in August engine production at its manufacturing plant in Bangalore.
Toyota Kirloskar Deputy Managing Director Shekar Viswanathan declared that the company plans to produce around 240,000 transmission units and 100,000 engines at this facility. Toyota Kirloskar, which is a JV between Toyota and Kirloskar Systems, Bangalore, announced in 2011 that it plans to build a new engine facility and expand its transmissions unit for the hatchback Etios Liva and the latest sedan Etios, investing a total of Rs 500 crore.
The company already exported 1,500 Etios and Liva units to South Africa from the Ennore Port, near Chennai. Viswanathan attended the National Conference on Chennai and Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC), where he recalled the Automotive Mission plan set back in 2006, according to which there is the need to expand connectivity between the ports.
“India is becoming the base for export of small cars and that is something we must foster. What I would like to emphasize is this plan needs to be enmeshed with the various corridors being proposed. We do need excellent Port access for our exports,” he said.
