TSAM (Toyota South Africa Motors) has recently announced that the Toyota Etios has been launched onto the local market, where prices have been set at R115,800.

According to the Japanese based car manufacturer, the Toyota Etios sedan and hatchback can accommodate five people comfortably and the two models have been fitted with tilt-adjustable steering column, electric power steering, air conditioning, ABS with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), and two front airbags for the base entry-level version. Toyota says that the central locking and electric windows are available on the XS model, which is priced at R120,900 for the hatchback.

“The Etios was conceived after some of the most extensive market research ever conducted in South Africa by a motor company. As a result, we were able to strike the best balance between initial purchase price, running cost, performance and specification, which are all essential to a quality, affordable, value-for-money vehicle. After all, the Tazz left us with very big shoes to fill, said the sales and marketing senior vice president of TSAM, Calvyn Hamman.

The new Toyota Etios is powered by a 1.5 liter petrol engine, which is developing a total output of 66 kW, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The model is burning 5.9 liters of fuel every 100 km in the sedan and 6.0 liters of fuel every 100 km in the hatchback. CO2 emissions are set at 140 g/km (sedan) and 138 g/km (hatchback).
