Toyota has released the very first official details on the FT 86 Open Concept, ahead of its public debut scheduled for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, on the 5th of March.
After the first images with the model have been released by the Japanese based automaker, the Toyota FT 86 open Concept is ending up in our news once again, this time with some new details announced by the company. According to the car manufacturer, the Toyota GT 86 Open Concept is more of a convertible rather than a roadster and the soft top will fold down behind the rear seats. This will impact the luggage space “only minimally”, as Toyota says. The soft top will get a glass rear window.
The Toyota FT 86 Open Concept has only gained 13 lbs, compared to the regular GT 86, to a total of 2,771 lb. Weight distribution stands at 53:47, front-to-rear, and the removal of the top will improve the center of gravity. Toyota didn’t release more details on the FT 86 Concept but our guess is that the model will use the same 2.0 liter boxer engine made by Subaru, also found on the GT 86, on the Scion FR-S and on the Subaru BRZ. Additional details on the model will be announced in Geneva.
