Toyota Global Production up 17.6% in January (Flash Report) image

Japan’s largest automaker, Toyota Motor Corp, said on Friday its global output climbed 17.6 percent in January from a year earlier to 809,630 vehicles.

The Japanese automaker said its domestic production soared 26% to 295,630 vehicles in January, stretching its streak of on-year output gains to six months in a row.

“We are trying to make up for the period when our production dropped because of floods in Thailand and the March 11 quake in Japan,” said Toyota spokesman Dion Corbett.

Severe flooding last year in Thailand, a production hub for many Japanese firms, forced the closure of factories, which particularly hit the auto and computer hard-disk drive (HDD) sectors.
