The Japanese automaker has been pushing the Camry beyond the “boring but safe” epitome lately – with the all-new 2018 Camry presented at NAIAS a step in the right direction.
Now the company is enhancing its appeal even further with the arrival of two new versions – Modellista and TRD. First and foremost, the Camry is finally getting a TRD version. For now the details are surrounded in mystery – we know they are for the Japanese market, with no word on the availability in America – and Toyota is keeping everything close to heart with just a glimpse of the two trims offered right now. The Modellista looks like an upscale package, gaining some changes to the front end, complete with new alloys and modified lower body trim. The TRD body kit meanwhile is on the sporty side, with a flashy splitter up front and new fascia featuring integrated low lamps – as well as new side sills, but without being overly flashy.
No word if the Modellista and TRD are simple aesthetic packages or the changes also affect what’s invisible to the naked eye. Toyota hasn’t even detailed the performance credentials and technical specifications of the regular 2018 Camry – but the rumor mill is talking about the flagship version packing a 3.5-liter V6 being treated to 295 horsepower, alongside an eight-speed direct-shift automatic transmission.
