The Japanese based automaker Toyota has recently confirmed its plans to develop a hydrogen fuel-cell sedan in 2015.
The announcement was made through the voice of the president and CEO of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Jim Lentz, who said that the car manufacturer will get advanced batteries which exceed the performance of the current lithium-ion ones.
“Specifically, we’re developing a lineup that includes a hydrogen fuel-cell sedan in 2015”, said the company’s official in a speech at the 2012 Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars.
Toyota has found out how to cut the cost of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle by 90 percent from two years ago and this means that a hydrogen powered model will cost about 50,000 USD. Owning a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle doesn’t necessarily mean that you will save money spent before on petrol or diesel because the fuel consumption is the same, but, in our opinion, hydrogen powered vehicles are the key to the future, because one day, petrol will simply be gone. Unfortunately Jim Lentz didn’t offer more details on the hydrogen fuel-cell sedan which will be developed by Toyota.
