Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Toyota Motor Corporation’s production and sales subsidiary in India, celebrated today, April 4th, the beginning of exports of TKM-produced Etios-series sedans and hatchbacks to South Africa.
The ceremony took place at Ennore Port near Chennai, where first South-Africa-bound Etios was loaded onto a ship. About 200 guests took part at the ceremony, including the Karnataka State Minister for Home and Transport R. Ashoka, Karnataka State Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries Murugesh R. Nirani, TKM Vice Chairman Vikram Kirloskar and TKM Managing Director Hiroshi Nakagawa.
This is only the beginning of the company’s Global Vision, that of positioning emerging markets as a priority and aiming to increase sales in those markets. Toyota expects sales to reach sales of 20,000 annually.
“It is a very proud moment for all of us in Toyota Kirloskar Motor as we flag off the first ever Etios export consignment to South Africa. As we begin a new chapter of business with the start of the exports, I would like to express my gratitude to all our employees, our partners and suppliers for their efforts which has made it possible to achieve this milestone,” declared Vikram Kirloskar, Vice Chairman, TKM.
