Toyota Prius is Japan’s best-selling car in 2011 image

The Toyota company has officially announced that the Prius model has been the best-selling car in Japan in 2011.

According to the Japanese based automaker Toyota, the Prius model has been a huge hit on the local auto market last year, when the model has been sold in 252.528 units in Japan only. Toyota says that the Prius model has been assisted by strong sales of the Prius Alpha too, the MPV version, and the sales in 2012 are expected to break every record considering the fact that the Prius c has also been launched and more people are looking for either an electric vehicle or a hybrid these days.

The second best-selling car in 2011 on the local Japanese auto market has been the Honda Fit, 207.882 people choosing this model, while the third best-selling car was the Suzuki Wagon R minicar, with 160.439 units sold. Even with these impressive figures, we have to remind you that Japan has had a difficult year in 2011, after being hit by an earthquake and a tsunami in March. Sales went down by 20 percent, local production had suffered and imports have taken advantage, with Volkswagen being the number one foreign competitor.
