Toyota sales up 7.5 percent in the U.S. in January image

Toyota Motor Sales USA has reported sales of 124, 540 vehicles for 24 selling days in January 2012, accounting for an increase of 7.5 percent compared to the same period in 2011.

The Toyota Division made up 112,266 units of the total sales, an increase of 9 percent over the same period last year. Of that number, 67,602 units were Toyota passenger cars, up 20.1 percent over last January, while 44,664 units were light trucks, up 4.4 percent.

The Lexus Division reported sales of 12,274 units, down 4.6 percent year-on-year. Roughly half of Lexus sales (6,069 units) were passenger cars, an increase of 9.1 percent over the same period last year. Lexus light trucks recorded sales of 6,205 units in January 2012, down 15 percent year-over-year.

Toyota sold 16,065 hybrid vehicles in January 2012, an increase of 19.8 percent. 14,102 of those were Toyotas (up 15.7 percent), while Lexus sold 1,963 hybrids (up 60.2 percent).
