Toyota to Establish its Own Brand in China Focused on Energy Vehicles image

Toyota China plans to establish its own brand, based on new energy vehicles.

FAW Toyota and Guangqi Toyota will benefit from upcoming products which will help Toyota China increase its progress in the new energy field. In March this year the company made public its Yundong plan, according to which Toyota China and its JV partners in the country plan to develop and produce hybrid vehicles, which will increase the companies’ experience in the field of new energy vehicles.

Toyota’s strategy differs from the ones adopted by several other automakers, who chose to supply the JV partners with old models or focus just on the development of pure electric vehicle technology. Toyota on the other hand chose to focus on localizing advanced technologies, introduce products adapted for the Chinese consumers and improve domestic marketing and management systems.

Toyota’s plan also includes introducing electric motor and advanced battery technology to the country. Toyota’s future plans in China are based on the help of oyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing (China) R&D Center in Changshu, Jiangsu. The company aims at producing the Prius both in the U.S. and China , being Toyota’s first hybrid model to be produced outside Japan.
