To satisfy the increasing appetite for luxury cars in India, Toyota will officially introduce its premium brand to the Asian country in 2013 by setting up an import company.
The Japanese carmaker, which is present in India through a joint venture with Kirloskar Group, will build separate exclusive showrooms for selling Lexus passenger cars and SUVs in India.
“Lexus is a premium and reputed brand of Toyota. We will introduce the models of this brand in India in 2013,” said Toyota Kirloskar Motor deputy managing director Sandeep Singh. Toyota is currently conducting a market study on formulating strategies to market the cars.
“The cars will be imported from Japan and will be sold as a completely built unit in India,” Singh added. Singh also said prices for Lexus cars in India have not yet been decided. Although the company has not officially launched the brand in India, some Lexus models, that are imported directly by individuals, are already on Indian roads.
