Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota Motor North America, will be the keynote speaker for the Society of Automotive Analysts’ outlook conference, set to be held on Jan. 12 to open the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists Joseph White of the Wall Street Journal and Paul Ingrassia, formerly of the Wall Street Journal and now with Reuters News, will open the 2014 Automotive Outlook Conference. They are set to talk about what the industry has learned – and what it hasn’t learned – since the publication of their book, “Comeback: The Fall & Rise of the American Automobile Industry,” 20 years ago.
A panel of experts will discuss if the auto industry is in an era that is “better than the good old days” or if it is beginning to slide.
Panelists include: William Strauss, senior economist of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Jessica Caldwell, senior analyst for the car-shopping website Edmunds.com; and Brian Johnson, managing director and senior equity analyst covering autos for Barclays. Detroit Free Press auto critic Mark Phelan will provide a preview of the auto show.
