BMW’s current generation midsize premium sedan has just surpassed the 2 million mark in sales since its market launch.
The current generation of BMW’s 5-Series is one of the oldest midsize sedans in the premium segment, as all its rivals have all-new models to show off with. However, the F10 is still in the game, and for six years now, the 5 Series has been the market leader. Last year alone, more than 347,000 customers worldwide chose a sedan, a touring or a BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo version. Since its market launch in 2010, BMW sold more than two million F10 models and it has become the most successful 5-Series generation to date. Compared with the previous one, demand for the current 5-Series have risen by more than 42 percent and since it has entered into production in 1972, a total of more than 7.5 million BMW 5 Series were sold so far.
The Munich-based automaker is however preparing the G30 new generation and it is expected to reveal it at the Paris Auto Show this year, for sales to start in early 2017. Underpinning a modified platform of the latest 7-Series flagship, the upcoming new 5-Series is reportedly going to also offer two plug-in hybrid setups. However, it will be harder than ever for BMW to keep is luxury crown at the end of this year, as Mercedes is pushing its sales hard and the three-pointed star brand is already in the lead after the first quarter. Moreover, the worldwide sales of its new E-Class have not even started yet.
