Smart is planning to introduce two concept cars next month, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, which they are said to preview the ForTwo and the ForFour’s next generations.
The announcement hasn’t been made officially but according to the guys at Autocar, both cars will share the platform with the third generation of the Renault Twingo and they are said to enter production next year. The third generation of the Smart ForTwo will come as a coupe and as a convertible, with a fabric roof. The model will is expected to be very different than the one currently going on sale.
The 2015 Smart ForTwo will get the same two-seat layout and it will be powered by a 0.9 liter three-cylinder direct injected gasoline engine, made in collaboration with Renault, which will be good for 85 HP (63 kW) in naturally aspirated form and 105 HP (78 kW) in turbocharged version. A new seven-speed automatic dual clutch transmission will be available for the model too. The ForTwo e-Drive is also considered, which will come with a 90 HP (67 kW) electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
The other Smart concept car which will be unveiled in Frankfurt will preview the future ForFour generation and it will be approximately 3,550 mm long, 1,701 mm tall and it will ride on a 2,470 mm long wheelbase. The model is said to come with a more powerful 900cc turbo engine. The new ForFour will eventually give birth to an entry-level crossover.
