Looks like the economy is doing fine if we look at how many cars most of the automakers sold in August. Auto sales in the United States are projected to increase by almost 20 percent in August.
Here are the results – temporarily list (updating)
Chrysler Group LLC – 148,472 units, a 14 percent increase compared with sales in August 2011 (130,120 units), and the group’s best August sales since 2007
Ford: 197,249 vehicles in August in the U.S., a 13% improvement from both last year’s 175,220 and July’s total of 173,966.
GM: 240,520 vehicles in the United States, up 10 percent compared with a year ago.
Toyota: 188,520 units in August 2012, up 40.2 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis and 45.6 percent on an unadjusted raw volume basis.
Subaru: 28,293 vehicles for the month of August. The company also reported year-to-date sales of 217,780, up 24.7 percent increase over prior year.
VW: 41,011 units sold in August, a 62.5 percent increase over prior year sales, a 37.6 percent increase year-to-date and the best August since 1973.
Porsche: 3,026 vehicles. This compares to 2,184 vehicles sold last August, for an increase of 39 percent. For the year, Porsche has sold 22,279 cars in the U.S., a nine percent increase over last year’s sales of 20,494.
Audi: 11,527 new vehicles representing a 13% increase above the previous record set in August of last year.
Hyundai: 61,099 units, a four percent increase compared with the same period a year ago and the best August sales level in company history, even topping the Cash for Clunkers mark set in 2009.
BMW Group: 22,553 vehicles, a decrease of 5.7 percent from the 23,924 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW Group is up 7.6 percent on sales of 208,268 in the first eight months of 2012 compared to 193,565 in the same period in 2011.
American Suzuki: 1,968 units. SX4 continues to lead sales with a 2% year to date sales increase.
Mazda: 22,234 vehicles, representing a decrease of 1.8 percent (5.4 percent DSR) versus last year. Year-to-date sales through August are up 11.8 percent (11.3 percent DSR) versus last year, with 185,349 vehicles sold.
Infiniti: 11,155 units in August, an increase of 23.6 percent versus 9,024 units a year earlier. Year-to-date Infiniti sales are up 21.1 percent compared to the 63,702 units sold during the same period last year.
Honda: 131,321 units, an increase of 59.5 percent compared with August 2011 (an increase of 53.6 percent based on the daily selling rate*). Acura’s U.S. August sales of 15,646 units increased 72.8 percent compared with August 2011.
Nissan: 98,515 units versus 91,541 units a year earlier, up 7.6 percent. Nissan Division sales increased 5.9 percent for the month at 87,360 units. Sales of Infiniti vehicles were up 23.6 percent over the prior year, to 11,155 units.
KIA: 50,028 units sold. Sales over the same period last year were up 21.5 percent
