A McLaren P1 is being used temporary as an Uber car in New York City, so this might be your chance to get a ride in the rare and hot “green” hypercar.
If you happen to be in Manhattan, forget about the Ford Crown Victoria or the Nissan NV taxi rides and go for the Uber because you have a pretty good chance of going to your destination in a McLaren P1. The ride will be free too and this is happening thanks to a new show on National Geographic, called Breakthrough, which is using Uber to promote it. The deal runs between October 27 and 30 and you will have to be in Manhattan, below the 58th street.
Rides in the McLaren P1 are being offered from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and you will have to enter the code “Breakthrough” for it. This doesn’t exactly guarantee that the British hypercar will arrive to take you to your destination and you can’t even specifically order it, but don’t act too surprised if you will see it in front of you, with the passenger door opened. As you may recall, the P1 has been shown back in 2013, at the Geneva Motor Show, and it is a hybrid exotic ride, with a two-door coupe body style and rear mid-engine and RWD layout. The 3.8l twin turbo V8 and an electric motor are providing it with a total output of 903 HP and 978 Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint made in 2.8s and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).
