UK Auto Production Increases in the First Half of 2012 image

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reported that during the first half of 2012 UK car production was up 14.1% to 756, 116 units, after a sight fall in June of 0.7%.

The GBP 5.8 billion investment committed to UK in the last two years provides long-term growth opportunities, but weakness in European demand may make the next few months a little bumpy,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive.

In the first half commercial vehicle output decreased 8.7% and engine production was up 0.5%. Last month engine production was down 15.1%. In the first six months commercial vehicle output decreased 19.7% to 8,367 units in June, and 8.7% to 56,096 units in the first half of the year. Last month engine production was down 15.1% to 203,188 units, but increased 0.5% to 1.34 million units from January to June.
