English customers of the Mercedes-Benz E Class wagon and GLC Coupe SUV now have more ample choices when selecting petrol or diesel engines.
Mercedes likes to keep it complicated throughout Europe when it comes to powertrain choices – and it seems they decided to increase the factor in the UK, where a slew of new engines have been added to the newest E Class Estate and GLC Coupe. The new AMG E43 Wagon will compete with the Audi S6 Avant, thanks to a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine packing 401 horsepower (299 kilowatts). It has the 4MATIC four-wheel-drive and will sprint to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in a great 4.7 seconds, with the max speed capped at 155 mph (250 km/h). The E Class also gets a couple of new diesel options. The E200d packs the 150 hp (112 kW) version of Mercedes’ new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo diesel motor, mated to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The E350d comes with the equally new 3.0-liter, V6 turbo diesel engine, displaying 258 hp (192 kW) and coming up with a good fuel economy of almost 50 mpg UK.
The 350d and AMG 43 powertrains can also be had inside the GLC Coupe in the United Kingdom. But here the GLC Coupe loses 4 hp (25 kW) over the AMG E43, so it-s going to be a tad slower in the sprint – needing 4.9 seconds. Additionally, Mercedes adds the 4MATIC 4WD to the best-selling, 194 hp (145 kW) E220d sedan – costing a premium of £1500.
