Yesterday, Ford announced that the UK market will be getting a special diesel model of the Ford Focus, called the Focus Econetic, in 2012.
The new diesel ECOnetic, which will go on sale early next year, leverages a number of advanced technologies that Ford expects will make it more fuel efficient than any other compact vehicle on the road today in Europe, including conventional diesel-, gasoline- and moreover, hybrid-powered vehicles.
The Focus ECOnetic will deliver 67mpg with CO2 emissions below 95g/km. It comes with a new 105PS version of the Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine and has been optimised for fuel efficiency with a new injection system and turbocharger as well as friction reducing measures and enhanced charge cooling.
The six-speed manual gearbox will feature a long economical top gear, while low rolling resistance tyres help the Focus keep rolling with less energy.
There’s also an exhaust system which reduces harmful NOx pollution and the amount of particulates escaping into the atmosphere.
The Focus ECOnetic will be available in five-door and wagon variants.
