One of the social media outlets of the South Korean automakers has officially introduced the first preview for the facelifted Sonata – sketches that would make any drawing board artist rejoice.
We already know it’s going to become live at an official event later on this year and we also know thanks to the teasers it will feature both a standard and a more aggressive sporty version. The other two cars in the drawing are past generations. As anyone with some experience knows, these sharp lines don’t do justice to the actual design – which is usually slightly toned down from the design sketches that mostly depict how the designer would really want the car to look like – the result is what we see after the other departments pitch in.
At least we hope the quad exhaust system of the sportier model gets to live on, given the outgoing Sonata with the 1.6 and 2.0 turbo engines already has them. Up front the “cascading” radiator grille is updated, with sleeker looking headlights than before and upright, bumper-integrated LED daytime running lights. So far we don’t expect major differences on the powertrain front – the 2.0-liter turbo should still present itself as the flagship with 245 horsepower (183 kilowatts) and a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic gearbox.
