U.S.: BMW ActiveHybrid 5 price confirmed – from $61,845 image

BMW North America has just announced that its hybrid 5-Series F10 – known simply as the ActiveHybrid 5 – will go on sale in the States in March with a base MSRP of $61, 845 (€47,800), which includes an $895 destination and handling fee.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 brings together a BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line engine, an electric drive system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox for the first time.
The drive system generates combined output of 250 kW/340 hp, allows the car to be driven on electric power alone up to 60 km/h (37 mph), accelerates the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds (just 0.1-seconds slower than the 535i), the automaker said in a statement. The 40-44 miles/gallon fuel efficiency is 10 miles/gallon better than the 535i.

It’s all good, but a normal diesel will do better both performance and economy-wise. It’s just the CO2 issue. Pity.

As expected it comes with a lot of toys – Dynamic Traction Control, the Anti-lock Braking System, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Brake Assist, Brake Fade Compensation, Brake Drying and Start-Off Assistant Park Distance Control, a rear-view camera, Surround View, High-Beam Assistant, Parking Assistant, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition and Head-Up Display. It supports smart phone usage, and an iPhone app offers an unprecedented level of integration.
