The new replica laws make way for the start of sales of the Morgan V6 Roadster in the United States, after years of only being allowed to bring the 3 Wheeler.
The solid safety and emissions laws have disallowed so far the Morgan Motor Company from selling anything but the 3 Wheeler in the US, but now legislation regulating replica vehicles will pave the way for a Californian importer to start bringing the new four-wheeled Morgans sometimes alter this year. The law introduced in December last year allows low-volume automakers to sell “replica” brand-new vehicles, and they just need to resemble a car made at least a quarter century ago. The production shouldn’t surpass 5,000 units each year and the manufacturer is only allowed to deliver 325 units in the United States each year.
Now San Francisco-based ISIS Imports, the oldest Morgan dealer in the country, has decided to allow the placing of orders for the Morgan V6 Roadster this summer, with US-spec models tipped for production in the UK by the end of the year. Though most “classic” Morgan models, including the iconic 4/4, would be good for the replica program, the V6 Roadster is the initial model for US specification. It has under the hood a Ford-sourced 3.7-liter V6 engine good for 280 hp and tipping the scales at just 2,094 pounds, it will get to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds.
