US: Fiat expects great sales from new small crossover image

Unveiled this autumn during the Paris Motor Show, the latest model from the Italian brand – the Fiat 500X crossover has crossed the ocean to have its US premiere during the 2014 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has had a hard time finding the right mix to properly secure its place on the crowded US auto market when it comes to products coming from the European brands. Fiat’s sales – since it returned – have not been shining, even as a five-door hatchback called the 500L complemented the iconic 500 minicar.

On the other hand, the recently released Fiat 500X crossover sport utility vehicle might stand a better chance, with executives of the company claiming it would become very popular. When Fiat starts selling the new model during the second quarter of 2015, officials expect the model to appeal to the growing customer base that search for crossovers. With trucks and SUVs again on high demand in the US, even the smallest of the bunch – such as the 500X and its Jeep Renegade sibling – should gain a lot of traction. It’s stylish, still properly retro-inspired and offers a lot more room than the 500 minicar. It’s also well established in the segment as an alternative – not a competitor – to the more rugged all-wheel drive oriented Jeep Renegade.
