US: Ford Focus RS to also sport an optional winter tire pack image

The second largest US automaker has recently revealed its Focus RS high-performance version will become the first model in North America to have the optional winter tire and wheel pack as a factory upgrade.

The winter tire + wheel combo will be priced at $1, 995 and for the money you’ll be getting lots of fun in the snow thanks to Ford treating the Focus RS to an all-wheel drive setup. The pack is only available in North America and will actually be standard equipment if the customer is form Canada. For the money the US customers will get new 18×7.5-inch wheels and a Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires measuring 225/40R18. The wheels look almost the same as the standard setup, but they do gain a sparkle silver tan in order to better hide the salt spray. And the dimensions are a tad smaller than the standard wheels in order to facilitate owner-mounting of the winter chains if necessary. And the wheels and tires are also narrower than the normal ones in order to maximize traction on snow covered roads.

The Winter Wheel & Tire Package also adds a tire pressure monitoring system and center caps. If you’re looking to snatch the 2016 Ford Focus RS in North America you need to know the performance hatch will set you back $35,730 (excluding $875 destination charges) and for that you’ll get a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline unit packing 350 horsepower (261 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (474 Newton meters) of torque, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a standard AWD system.
