Following last month’s sales decline that saw uninterrupted sales gains come to an end, dealers at Ford and General Motors are upping the discounts on full size trucks to keep up the pace with the competition and keep in check inventory on their lots.
Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealers are now on a national Presidents Day sale that will last through February 28 and have incentives of up to $7,092 on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and up to $7,588 on the 2014 GMC Sierra. The discounts come only eight months after the models redesigns were revealed.
On the other hand at Ford the F-Series pick-up truck has received a completely new generation, so the 2014 F models are up for grabs at rich deals that vary form dealer to dealer – while other big trucks have incentives of up to $3,250.
While a two-month inventory supply is considered ideal, both automakers have been building up the lots with unsold cars, with Ford having a four-month supply of F-150s at the end of the month and Chevrolet’s Silverados climbing to five months.
In January, combined sales of Chevrolet and GM pickups slid a big 17 % to 40,044, while Ford’s F-Series sales went down only slightly, by 1 % to 46,536.
