US News & World Report says that with the steady rising pace of sales and the introduction of further new models, families have a large choosing base, but when it comes to the best – GM and Mazda are the ones to choose.
The magazine’s 2014 Best Cars for Families awards went to GM with six category wins and Mazda with four category wins, while the segment most identified with the family – the minivan – was won by Honda’s Odyssey van for the fourth consecutive year.
“The Odyssey was designed to excel in one of the harshest environments on earth, daily family use,” said Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations for American Honda. “Being named ‘Best Minivan for Families,’ four years in a row speaks volumes about the Odyssey’s singular commitment to be the ultimate family vehicle.”
Mazda took home the Best Compact Car, Best Hatchback, Best Midsize Car and Best Compact SUV with the Mazda3, Mazda3 hatch, Mazda6 and Mazda5 models.
General Motors had its awards spread evenly across its brands – Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet each took two. Buick Verano went home with the Best Upscale Small Car and the Enclave too the Best 3-Row Midsize SUV. Cadillac’s ATS and CTS won the Best Upscale Midsize Car and Best Luxury Large Car honors. Chevrolet will display at home the awards for Best Large Car with the Impala, and Best Large SUV with the Tahoe.
