We’re pretty used to the works of Texas tuner Hennessey – they’re pretty much overboard and tempting insanity – which is why we’re actually pretty much in love with this crazy 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350 turned Hellcat hunter.
Ground is shaking over there in Texas – and not because of those oil rigs. It’s because of Hennessey Performance, which has decided to deliver an appropriate response to FCA’s Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat duet. We’re talking here of the Shelby GT350 that got treated to the HPE800 package – which is a pretty obvious statement. The Hennessey HPE800 upgrade program for the 2016 Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R delivers 808 ponies – which is a rather funny troll move to the Hellcats packing 707 hp. All those 808 hp will be delivered at a rev-happy figure of 7, 800 rpm, while maximum torque comes packing 657 lb-ft of torque (891 Nm) instead of the regular 429 lb-ft (582 Nm).
In order to have all hell break loose, Hennessey decided the flat-plane GT350 5.2-liter V8 needed a 2.9-liter supercharger, alongside forged pistons and connecting rods, a carbon fiber high-flow induction manifold, as well as other small bits to achieve all the needed bells and whistles. And since this Mustang has been treated to overly minor design modifications, we could even call this one a “sleeper” – but only when one of Hellcats will drag race it out there among the oil fields. By the way, if you want one, then hurry up because only 50 units will be delivered and the waiting time for the makeover is of around three or four months.
