The Ingolstadt-based luxury automaker, the second largest in the world on the premium market, has announced its newly introduced 2016 S8 Plus will have an asking price of $114,900 in the US, with first sales coming in December.
The S8 Plus flagship performance sedan will have its official public introduction for the North American region during the Los Angeles Auto Show starting next week, with the mind bending asphalt eating monster hiding under the long hood a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with 605 bhp (451 kW) and 516 lb-ft (698 Nm) of torque – this is no less than 85 bhp (63 kW) and 73 lb-ft (98 Nm) above the level set with the normal S8. The hulking sedan will be able to reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds and will top out at an electronically limited maximum speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Those looking to have some all out chases with the law enforcement units can also select the optional Dynamic package, which among other goodies (carbon fiber rear spoiler, sports exhaust system and ceramic brakes), comes with a restricted top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).
Having an uprated engine is not enough if you also look to survive the trip so the engineers at Audi fitted the S8 Plus with an adaptive sport air suspension, a dynamic steering system and a torque vectoring rear differential. Styling wise, the Plus version remains rather discrete and boasts silver mirror caps, a body-color rear spoiler and 21-inch alloy wheels with a titanium finish. There’s also the Black Optic package for those looking for added flair and the S8 morphs with the help of a black Singleframe grille, carbon fiber mirror caps, a carbon fiber rear diffuser and blacked-out taillights.
