Looking out to find the cars that would suit best those who are on a tight budget, US auto site cars.com has come up with the most affordable new cars that are priced below $18,000 – less than half the average US price.
Although those hulking big trucks and luxury cars drive the auto industry profits and recovery in the US, there are lots of people who don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on their ride. Sure, they would need to know how to drive with a manual gearbox and the connectivity would be from the smartphone and Bluetooth hands free – but, even with a tight budget, there are still noteworthy options.
“You won’t have to necessarily compromise on quality, but it really depends on what you want,” said Joe Wiesenfelder, Cars.com executive editor. “There is quite a disparity on quality among the vehicles on the list. The Mitsubishi Mirage is pretty bare bones and it’s a very lightweight car. Whereas we’ve driven the Spark and felt it was a little more substantial.”
The lowest priced new car on the list is GM’s Chevrolet Spark, made in South Korea – the manual transmission version starts from $12,995. While the ten car list is populated mainly by foreign brands – who have more experience in building affordable and, most of all, small cars, another Detroit manufacturer still hits a top spot – Ford, with its Fiesta, which is made in Cuautitlan, Mexico. The manual gearbox version of the Fiesta subcompact is priced at $14,925 and is the sixth-cheapest vehicle.
